It’s the 12th of this monthth Storytime Magazine Anniversary! It’s been an amazing journey, and we’re so grateful that you’ve been on this journey with us. We may not be able to send a special cake with each issue – but we wish we could!

Instead, we want to make this anniversary issue special by making it an example of everything story time stands for. If you’ve been with us for a while you know that Stories are an amazing way to explore ideas and topics that matter.

Every year, researchers at Oxford University Press survey thousands of children around the world to select Oxford Children’s Word of the Year. The latest word chosen by children was Calmness.

Children around the world are telling us what they want from their world and it became the inspiration for the cover story of our latest issue. Such is the power of stories: They let us put forth big, abstract ideas in a way that really connects with how we feel. So we hope this month’s stories give readers something wonderful and something to think about.

‘Bird of Peace’ Inspired by a parable told by the Azerbaijani folklorist Sadnik Pirsultanli. It is about two kings who argue over unimportant things until they lose their temper and declare war. But when one of them goes to collect his armour, he discovers that a bird has made its nest in his helmet.
