In a season that’s been racked by pitcher injuries for Vanderbilt baseball, two more ailments popped up during a series against North Dakota State.

Vanderbilt (10-7) won the first two games of the series but lost the third game to the Bison (2-13).

England Bryan, one of the Commodores’ top relief pitchers who can reach the upper 90s with his fastball, was unavailable due to what coach Tim Corbin termed as soreness. He is day-to-day, Corbin said.

Freshman right-hander Adria Casoliba left a game March 7 with a hamstring injury.

“He hurt (his hamstring) in high school too,” Corbin said. ” … That’s never good.”

Austin Nye, Colin Barczi, Miller Green injury updates

Catcher Colin Barczi, who has not played since a win over Eastern Michigan in the season’s first week, is trending in the right direction after missing time due to a shoulder injury. He’s getting closer to returning, but Corbin would not say whether he would be back for the SEC opening series against LSU.

Barczi began to hit this week and did some on-field work prior to the game on March 8.

“Barczi’s in a better place than he was a week ago,” Corbin said. “Positive that way.”

Corbin said he was unsure if either Austin Nye or Miller Green would return for the LSU series, a decision that will be made during the middle of the week.

Nye had not allowed an earned run in 10 innings of work across three starts, walking two and striking out 13. But he left a start against Arizona after one inning with biceps tightness. Green has yet to pitch this season.

Aiden Stillman injury update

Aiden Stillman, Vanderbilt’s top recruit, has been sidelined for most of the time he’s been on campus with an undisclosed injury. He sat out the fall and has yet to pitch this season. But he is getting closer to ready, Corbin said.

“Stillman is getting closer to being on the field,” Corbin said. “I’d say it would happen within the next couple weeks.”

Without Nye, Green, Bryan, Casoliba, Stillman and Matthew Shorey, who has not yet pitched this season nor has he begun throwing, Vanderbilt has 14 healthy pitchers on the roster.
